Poems are written by modern poets Essay Example For Students
Poems are written by modern poets Essay In this essay I am comparing the two poems half past two and Hide and Seek these two poems are written by modern poets. Which are Vernon Scannel and U. A. Fanthorpe, we see in Scannels poem that he is describing his sinter child hood where his best friends leave him during a game of hide and seek. For the reason we do not know. We can see this in the title which make out first thoughts be ones of our child hoods and playing game in the garden, where as in half past two we relate to the poem by making us, the reader, think of all that we were missing out when we had to stay behind after school for detentions. In the first stanza of hide and seek, we see a child that has played the game of, hide and seek, before we see this in the way the poet calls out Im ready! Come and find me! this shows us that the child has played this before by the use of the explication to create two short sentences for emphasis and that he very confident in what he is doing. But in the poem half past two we see a very childish start to stanza one by the use of saying once upon a school time and creating a dream world. Like the childish stories that us as children read, where as the last poem created a world of fun by playing hide and seek.Ã In the poem of hide and seek we see the writer using a juxtaposes which is when two words are linked to each other. This is seen in line seven and eight, by saying The bush near the swing. Whatever happens? You mustnt sneeze when they come prowling in. we see that the poet uses the word prowling which also goes with the bush and this create a sense of being outside in nature and where animals get hunted down for food and we see that the boy takes this game too far. But the way this boy hides and is scared of the people hunting him down, suggests that he is not playing a game but running away from some body. In the poem Half past two we see the poet looking at his background and day dreaming through out his detention to escape the confides of his school and tries to put across to the reader that the smell of chrysanthemums are denied by the teachers strictness. At the ends of these two poems we see the poems have the same meaning and ending, which is one of growing up and having to leave your past behind you. The writer in half past two does this by saying he escaped into the clock less land of ever to create a sense of adults are constrained by clocks and that by having to do things against time makes you an grown up.So in conclusion I have to say that the poems are all about growing up in your child hood and that these poems basically have the same stories to tell which are about growing up and having to face the facts and make changes to be an adult.

The Invincible and the taking over of technology Essay Example For Students
The Invincible and the taking over of technology Essay In recent years, new advances in technology have freed people from tedious tasks, enabling them to do more in less time. We have come to rely excessively on this technology, to the point that we may be giving computers too much intelligence and independence. If machines ever develop intelligence on a level that could challenge humans, will they find that the most efficient course of action for humans is removing them? Stanislaw Lems novel The Invincible tells of a race of robots that dwell on a planet and come to threaten the lives of a crew looking for their sister ship, The Condor. Robots were placed upon the planet millions of years ago and evolved according to the environment. They needed to destroy anything that would cause their species to discontinue, including humans. The Invincible proves that the advancement of intelligent machines will threaten our society one-day. We will write a custom essay on The Invincible and the taking over of technology specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Throughout history, humans have become fascinated with how far technology may someday take us. Works of science fiction through literature and entertainment have made it possible to uncover potential future developments. Levels of technological advancements are at an all time high, while computing power is set increase dramatically in coming decades. Gordon Moore, the co-founder of Intel, predicted, in what is now known as Moores Law, that the processing power will double every 18 months. This and the development of quantum computers may account for new tools toward artificial intelligence. Some have looked at this upcoming enhancement in artificial intelligence with anticipation and others with dread. Professor Hans Moravec, well known for his belief that machines will inherit the earth, believes that it is only the next logical step in evolution. Mechanical machines are capable of far greater learning and development and will therefore replace biological humans. John Leslie, professor of philosophy at Guelph Univerisy, predicted a number of ways these intelligent machines may cause the extinction of mankind. The super intelligent machines may argue to themselves that they are superior to humans. They may also develop the theory that the only way to save humans, is to save us from ourselves. They may eliminate some of us due to overpopulation trends or disease. Although we do not currently possess the ability to create such complex intelligence, many who are studying this field have thought of ways to prevent an intelligent machine takeover. Isaac Asimov, a quintessential author of more than 500 science fiction works, developed a group of fundamental rules humans would give to intelligent machines in order protect themselves. In Asimovs collection of short stories in I, Robot, he would give robots the command: A robot may not injure humanity, or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm. Yet many researchers have abandoned the hope of applying these simplistic laws. Machines will reach a degree of independence and break one rule to preserve another. This is seen in the movie I Robot, which was produced from taking Asimovs ideas and writings. Not only did the robots ignore the laws in this film, but tried killing the main character in order to preserve their existence. Suddenly machines are given an instinct of survival, though they possess no means of emotion or contemplation. This is exactly what can be seen in The Invincible, with robots that inhabit a planet and must destroy each other in order to exist. Robots begin to evolve, according to the environment, and many new species of the robots reside. However, after several thousand years, only the strong survive. This includes a species of robots that are similar to insects and travel in enormous packs. This explains why the shell of the Condor, The Invincibles sister ship, is eaten away at. The crew aboard the ship also suffers in that their memories are wiped away and they die slowly. The insect robots felt it necessary to due away with humans on the planet in order to prolong their existence. The Invincible shows how humans may react when confronted with an up-side down evolution. They first found the idea that robots inhibited the planet to be impractical, but when confronted with the evidence became fearful. People in the present time often go through three stages when examining the impact of new technologies. They at first enter a stage of awe and amazement, seeing how it may positively impact our culture. Then a sense of dread is accompanied after learning the potential takeover of the intelligent machines. Yet even if a distant danger does exist, it is much too early to start panicking. The third stage consists of taking a responsible path in order to try to prevent a replacement of the human race. Due to the increasing technologies and Moores law being proven, it is only a matter of time before artificial intelligence is fabricated. Trying to control the systems will not work in that they will become smart enough to unprogram themselves. Due to the nature process of evolution, humans will need to be replaced by machines, due to our incompetent nature. It is merely the next logical step in evolution. The Invincible shows a situation in which this may happen. The weak will eventually be eliminated as it is proven in this novel.

Correcting a Run-On Sentence With a Period or Semicolon
Correcting a Run-On Sentence With a Period or Semicolon The simplest way to correct a run-on sentence (also known as a fused sentence) is with a mark of punctuation- a period or semicolon. Correcting a Run-on Sentence With a Period To make two separate sentences out of a run-on, put a period at the end of the first main clause and begin the second main clause with a capital letter: Run-on SentenceMerdine is a skilled carpenter she single-handedly built a two-story log cabin.CorrectedMerdine is a skilled carpenter . She single-handedly built a two-story log cabin. Inserting a period at the end of the first main clause is often the best way to correct a long run-on sentence. Correcting a Run-on Sentence With a Semicolon Another way to separate two main clauses is with a semicolon: Run-on SentenceMerdine is a skilled carpenter she single-handedly built a two-story log cabin.CorrectedMerdine is a skilled carpenter ; she single-handedly built a two-story log cabin. Be careful not to overwork the semicolon. The mark is most often used between two main clauses that are closely related in meaning and grammatical form. Adding a Conjunctive Adverb Although a period or semicolon will correct a run-on sentence, a mark of punctuation alone wont explain how the second main clause relates to the first one. To make this relationship clear, you can follow the period or semicolon with a conjunctive adverbthat is, a transitional expression that introduces a main clause. The common conjunctive adverbs show that you are continuing a thought (furthermore, moreover), offering a contrast (however, nonetheless, still), or showing a result (accordingly, consequently, then, therefore, thus). Unlike coordinating conjunctions, conjunctive adverbs dont join main clauses; however, they do guide your readers by linking ideas: I loathed my job more than I loved the paycheck; consequently, I quit work and returned to college. After three days of rain, I was tempted to abandon the hike. Nevertheless, on the fourth day I took bearings from my compass and set out due west toward Cedar Bay. Remember that a conjunctive adverb between two main clauses should be preceded by a semicolon or period. It is usually followed by a comma. Scientific misconduct Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Scientific misconduct - Essay Example Since then cases of fraudulent scientific researches piled up. The main issue involves less information on major cases of scientific misconduct, but more information on minor cases. In Europe, countries such as Germany and the Dutch have had high profile cases of scientific misconduct. In the United Kingdom, Malcolm Pearceââ¬â¢s case was the first case of scientific misconduct. In 1994, the worldwide media covered a story on a successful ectopic pregnancy re-implant. Doctors had tried to do that for centuries without any success. At the time, Malcolm Pearce worked as a higher-ranking tutor in St Georgeââ¬â¢s Hospital Medical School, in London. As a famous ultrasonography practitioner, the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology put him as an assistant editor. The chief editor of the journal, Geoffrey Chamberlain, alongside Malcolm carried out a study based on ectopic pregnancy. The cases involved the birth of a baby after a successful ectopic embryo re-implantation. Malcolm told one of his colleagues that he had successfully re-implanted an embryo. He added Chamberlainââ¬â¢s name in the article; therefore, the document did not go through the standard peer reviewing procedure. The second case involved a trial treatment of recurrent miscarriages in 200 women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome. However, after a series of investigations, the hospital found out that Pearce had published two fraudulent papers. A young doctor in the Hospital where Malcolm taught raised questions based on the two papers. A series of investigations followed thereafter, which led to the discovery of the lies. Results of the investigations revealed that the patient who had given birth to the baby did not exist at all. He lost his job for fraudulent scientific research by giving false results about the study. For the second case, evidence showed that Malcolm could not have possibly treated 200 patients suffering from polycystic ovary

A national HER system would greatly increase efficiency as well as provide vital information e.g. chronic conditions or allergies that make some procedures unsuitable for some patients during medical emergencies (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2012). The issue of security and privacy can be easily addressed by the federal government having central servers and records being accessed only by ascertained health practitioners with proper security credentials allowing them access to the records (Gunter and Terry, 2005). The example of using technology to address issues of air quality is a perfect example of technology being used to enhance policy implementation (Shafie, 2008). At the same time, hierarchical agency compliance is promoted as information sharing from the federal, state and local agencies moves quickly and efficiently. In addition to that, the people affected by the policies and its outcomes can share information among themselves and the agencies thus giving much needed feedback and suggestions for improvement of service delivery (AirNow, 2012). Health care workforce and health care delivery Essay Example for Free
Health care workforce and health care delivery Essay How are the health care workforce and health care delivery affected by generational differences? Millions of generations have worked so hard to contribute to some of the challenges within the workforce. Every generation has inner deep values formulated by the era in which they were born and some life experiences. The work ethics, perceptions of others and communication styles are the inner deep values that affect experiences at work. According to research, the workforce transitioned from a two generation workforce (Matures and Boomers) to three generations (Matures, Boomers and Generation X). The mature generationââ¬â¢s characteristics developed from experiences in the Great Depression. Responsibility and quality are key expectations of the Matures, as well as structure and respect. The Boomer generation, a larger part of the workforce who experienced an era of growth and prosperity requires praise and recognition, putting company needs before personal needs, while juggling multiple responsibilities with competence. Some nursing leaders have experienced some challenges in generational diversity as well as differences in perceptions, values, attitudes, work ethics and beliefs. It is important to develop the skills to look at generational differences through different perspective to allow the leaders to extend their leadership qualities and productivity, decrease conflicts and increase the contributions of every staff. It is important to resolve conflicts within the nursing team, otherwise if unresolved it can lead to a loss of productive time, errors, staff turnover, and decreased patient satisfaction. References Swenson.C.Human Resource Solutions. NURSING ECONOMIC$/January-February 2008/Vol. 26/No. 1.Retrieved on June 25, 2014 from https://www.nursingeconomics.net/necfiles/hrsolutions/hrs_JF08.pdfMorrison, J.L. (2007). Ideas to consider when Discuss the shortage of health care staff, aside from doctors and nurses. The health care system has been experiencing a shortage of health care workers for a number of years. This is difficult to understand because a number of people struggle to understand how the organization could suffer from worker shortages in the time of economic recession, when many Americans does not have a job and the unemployment rate is high. This is an explanation that points to the different employees that the healthcare organizations need, for the organization to work in an efficient manner. The health care workers at a professional level who provide direct health services such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists and laboratory technicians or those who offer support services such as financial officers, cooks, drivers and cleaners are integral to the organization. According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report, a shortage in just one part of that complex web of workers can stop other parts from functioning at their best. A perfect example is at the hospital where I work, there has been a few times when there has been no house keeper to cover the floor because they felt sick and had to leave. On few occasions it has created some problems whereby there was no one to do their work, because housekeeping supervisor could not find any one to cover that shift and it became a problem in a number of ways you could imagine. There was no house keeper to throw the trash that was filled up, no one to mop the dirty floors and clean the toilets. All the nurses and the doctors were busy with the patients and it was difficult to find time to start doing the house keeping work. I believe every job is very important whether professional of or unprofessional, we all do different tasks in the health care field to reach one common goal of impressing our consumers or patients. The World Health Organization (WHO) observed that developed countries, such as America are going through a shortage due to an increasing number of baby boomers in the population and increasingly high-tech healthcare. Research shows that the government and university leaders have underinvested in education for health care workers, with not many new health workers to replace their retiring colleagues.
